Action Jackson

It’s been an action-packed weekend around here.  That wedding I was telling you all about?  The reception was last night, and it was so fun.  A few late nights, a lot of glue sticks, bruised thumbs from hammering nails, a near over-dosing on Italian Sodas and donuts, tons of DIY’s, yep…that about sums it up.  Here’s a sneak peek.  More photos and details to follow:

Green and Gray Paper Fan Glory Wall. Turned out mighty nice.

Aside from the wedding, I put into action one of my Painted Plaid stylings from this post here.

Remember her?

Look #2

Well, I did it….done and wore it. Minus the hat.  It was a good hair day…you understand.

Wearing: Anthropologie Painted Plaid Dress

Wearing: Dress-Anthropologie Painted Plaid, Blouse-Anthropologie Lemon Lift-off, Belt-Anthropologie Vivid Brink Belt , Tights-HUE, Boots-Born

The Painted Plaid print is quite conducive to camouflaging all sorts of evils, I must say.  It held up nicely today when it was the unlucky target of an impressive amount of baby spit-up, courtesy of this little dude here:

Painted Plaid survives a date with the Bankster.

And I mean really…could he be any pudgier? Cuter?!?

Hat and booties are from etsy. I die. Thank you for indulging me.

Stay tuned for all the action in the coming weeks, y’all.   Blogiversay giveaway coming your way, complete wedding reception low-down, Little man baby shower, Queen of your Closet series, and much more.

A girl’s gonna need some Dramamine, what with all the commotion around here!

A Non-Invasive Facelift

Okay, so the Anthrofied DIY challenge is now officially closed.  Thank you so much to all who entered….And may I just say, that you are all in for a splendid, crafty feast.  I’m so proud of you readers who dug deep, burned your fingers to a fare-thee-well, burned the midnight oil (in some cases), and made it work, people!  Sleep? Who needs it.  Sleep is always worth sacrificing for aesthetic pursuits.  (Shh….don’t tell my book club compatri0ts I just said that, being that we just finished reading Nurture Shock and spent quite a chunk of time singing the praises to the chapter on sleep needs.  Hypocrite much?  Yes, when it comes to creating things with my hands, I toss sleep aside faster than last week’s garbage). Anyway……

I can’t wait to show you what all these crafty-McCraftersons have been up to.  Alas, you must wait another day.

Today though, I wanted to show you how my Uncle Buck’s doing.  That nook he’s in just keeps a-changin’.  After I gave Bucky a nice new coat of shiny white, I decided I still wanted a bit of funk in there.  So Bucky went funky. He got a non-invasive Facelift.

Uncle Buck gets a Facelift

I’ve seen yarn-wrapped twigs done in the name of decor, and I’m sure I’ve laid eyes on antlers wrapped in yarn at one point or another….most likely on Pincrackerest.  Yes, Pinterest is crack.  There, I said it.  Anyone who disputes this claim hasn’t tried it.  And once you do, you’ll be a gonner too.  Go ahead, …try it.  Prove me wrong.  Pretty soon they’re going to have to open a Betty Pinterest clinic for addicts.  You’ll never know when I commit myself…I’ll totally use an alias. :)

Back to Bucky….I really dig his new look.  The yarn wrapping reminds me of quirky sweatbands, but I think that’s the whimsy/unexpected touch I tend to like about design, whether it be in decor or fashion.  Unexpected, funky-yet-cohesive touches.  I added a few old white books I picked up from Goodwill for a wedding I did a few months back to tie in the white theme…and there you go.  I told Bucky he looks cooler with his sweat bands….don’t you think he looks a little bad ass, like he might belong to a deer gang or something?  Don’t mess with the Buckster.

My 10 year old had a solo in the 5th grade performance the other night….they always tack on a PTA meeting before school performances to trick us into attending an actual PTA meeting.  It’s lame, but I see the point.  Otherwise, how would they ever get a vote on what kind of plants we want on the front walk?!  And how much of our budget should be allocated for balloons?  Life or death decisions, y’all!  Here’s how I rolled (literally) to the PTA meeting/ performance….

Wearing: Sweater-Banana Republic, Skirt-Gap Maternity, Belt- Anthropologie Vivid Brink Belt, Shoes-Anthropologie Fine Cut Oxfords, Earrings- Anthropologie Triphasic Hoops

I know it’s not exciting….but seriously, I’m a 10,000 degree kiln, and prefer to be naked every second of the day if I could….so this outfit you see above is kind of a miracle.

Hope all’s well today in your neck of the woods.

Take me Out….

That’s what I said to MacGyver over the phone, Friday afternoon.  Yes, Franz Ferdinand said it first, but that’s beside the point.  I needed to get out….I wanted time for him and me. So that’s what we did.  We had some fab Mexican food, I ran over to ATL before closing to exchange a size in one of the tops I bought for $35 when they were on special last week, plus I had a 20% off entire purchase.  Score.  These are the tops I bought.

Nautical Stripe 3/4 Sleeve- "nautical chic", they call it. Why can't they come up with better product names like Anthro?

and this one:

Dotted Henley in "fresh olive". I can't wait to wear this one!

Both these tops will be having regular dates with my torso this fall.  Super pumped about that.

The wafting aura of Anthropologie’s Volcano candles lured me in on the walk back to the car.  I must say, I’m seriously tempted to pounce on the sweater sale and snag one of these:

Felted Colorbar Cardigan

It’s so different from anything I own.  Just look at that shade of pink!  I mean, that is some serious pink.  But I love the little buttons and fleshy hue that tones it down and makes it totally work.  We’ll see….I have yet to bite on it.  May wait until it hits FULL sale.

Here’s what I wore on our ‘take me out’ date.

Wearing: Top-Anthropologie Odille (name?), Skirt-Gap Maternity, Belt-Anthropologie Vivid Brink Belt, Shoes-Anthropologie Lass and Laddie Oxfords (Poetic License "Backlash"), Flower-Anthropologie, Earrings-ATL

Lest you think we only went where I needed to go, we also stopped by the Bass Pro Shop, MacGyver’s version of an “Anthropologie” infatuation, so to speak.  He’s like a kid in a candy store there, a very expensive candy store mind you.  But hey, he puts up with the other force in our relationship (Anthro), so I can make room for Bass Pro.  I know, I’m Mother Theresa….hehe

Geesh, what a weekend.  After Friday, it kinda blurred right by me.  My 7-year-0ld had his party on Saturday, preparation and execution taking up most of the day.  The inevitable Costco run before it closes at 6 p.m…… on a Saturday!!  What the?!  Seriously, they need to re-think that decision.  They’d make so much ca-zash if they stayed open normal hours on Saturday.  Just sayin’…. Then a group of fabulous gals came over and we made baby shower invites for…well,…. moi.  I know, it sounds weird, but I  designed my own invites and came up with the theme.  I used to have a business doing it, and I really do enjoy it, the entire process of coming up with themes and working with different mediums to produce an invite.  My friends, especially the friend hosting the shower, is sincerely relieved I wanted to, otherwise, as she said herself, it would be evites.  gag.  Evites are great for mass invites and school functions, but to mark a special occasion like a baby shower… to give events that extra special oompf, you just hunker down and hand make it, you know?!  They turned out really cute.  Wanna see?

The theme is "Up, Up and Away"....hot air balloons and maps.

The houndstooth is actually fabric I bought with 40% off coupon at JoAnn’s; the “basket” of the balloon is thin cork purchased with coupon at Michael’s; the map strip was an old Atlas book I bought at Half Priced books for $3.  The “celebrate” flag is cut out of paint chips.  Paint chips are also going to play a roll in the buntings, along with more maps, to be strung across the room:

Paint chips and maps cut into triangles, sewn onto seam binding. $1.80 for 4 yards at Hobby Lobby. Not bad.

I’ll do a mega post on the shower after it happens next week.  I can’t wait!

I’m so proud.  I finished my book mobile corner.  Post is already in the works on that.  It’s a double-dose of Anthropologie inspired DIY next post.  Can you handle it?!

Oh, and if you haven’t perused Kim from Anthroholic’s Reader submissions from yesterday, please do.  I  may have snuck one in.  There’s always a bevy of styling inspirations on there, plus, it’s just fun to see Anthro pieces in action on so many different fabulous women.

Be back tomorrow.  Hope you all had a fabulous weekend!

xoxo Molly
