T-Minus 11 Days!!

That’s right, Ladies. T-Minus 11 Days until the big Anthromollogies event.  I’m SO excited! Sorry to sound like a broken record, but if you want to attend, you must email me to RSVP: molly@anthromollogies.com (or contact the La Cantera location @ 210-641-1029)

I can’t even tell you how pumped I am to gather with 30+ fellow Ultra-Anthropologie-Fans for an evening full of how-to’s in creative styling, fabulous tips to satiate any accessory-needy wardrobe, personally catered fashion advice, gnoshing, sipping, croony Indie music, and general warm fuzzies resulting from the shared love/hype of all things Anthro. Doesn’t it just give you the tinglies thinking about it?

I’ll tell ya what else gives me the tinglies…pulling out fallish skirts with birds on them. Hello, In The Trees Skirt….I’ve missed you.

Wearing: Skirt-Anthropologie In The Trees Skirt, Sweater-Anthropologie Space-Dyed Cowlneck, Belt-Anthropologie Looping Lanes, Earrings-Anthropologie Prospector’s Prize Dangles, Tights-Anthropologie Hue Opaque, Shoes-Anthropologie Lass and Laddie Oxfords

Other new Anthro items giving me the tinglies: Accessories, a.k.a. Anthro’s Forte’.

Plush Stole: Slay me, Anthro. You slay me. MUST HAVE.

Fronded Pom Scarf: I’m changing my middle name to Fronded Pom. Love it.

Apricity Curl Loop: This baby is beautiful. I’ve tried her on, and she’s a quality piece.

Edita Looped Fringe Scarf

Pom Beanie-I found this beanie 3 weeks ago in the Austin store and FELL HARD for the color. So I bought it. Super soft, super cute, super perfect.

Lace Hooded Cloche – Oh. My. Makes me a little weak in the knees just to look at it.

Iced Dew Bracelet Set- They winked at me when I walked by, kid you not! So I had to buy ‘em. Can you blame me?!

What fallish items are giving you the tinglies lately?

Happy Monday!

xoxo Molly

Flex your Styling Muscle Series – Anthropologie Hourglass Form Dress

First, if you have a second, please feel free to check out my Shop Anthromollogies page as I have added many new items today, including J.Crew, Lululemon, Anthropologie, and Banana Republic.  Hope you find something you like.

Secondly, thank you all for your contribution in celebrating my one year of blogging.  As you can see below….the winners shall expect their loot in the coming days.  See?….

Blogiversary Winners' Loot. En route!

And, you may have noticed in the title of this post, that I’ve decided to actually give a name to my styling series posts, you know….the ones where I take an Anthro item and style it a bunch of different ways. The name:

“Flex Your Styling Muscle”.

You like?  Hope so.  In this post series, you can expect to see stylings of the same item done at least 6 different ways.  What I expect is to continually challenge myself to see an item in my closet differently, so that I fall in love with it again and again every time I wear it.  Here’s hoping it’s inspiring for not only me but you too.  That said, I invite you to send me requests of items you’d like to see styled in this series.  If I have the item, I will gladly go for it and style the item in person.  If I do not own the item, I’m just gonna have to Polyvore the heck out of it.  Hope that’s alright with you.

So, now that we’ve got the formalities out of the way, let’s flex some style muscle, why don’t we?

Game on, Hourglass Form Dress.

Hourglass Form Dress

This dress speaks yummy blank canvas to me.  And the mustard color is one of my faves for sure.  I’m sure some of you may disagree with me, but I do sincerely believe mustard yellow as a color pairs well with just about anything in a wardrobe.  I know, I know… many times I hear things like…I can’t wear yellow next to my face. Well, the beauty of this dress is that you can layer under and over, adding in pops of color that DO look good next to your face and balance the mustard factor out.  And, you’ll look dang cool in the meantime.

Set 1: Hourglass Form Dress with: Cardi-LiaMolly, Tights-Anthro Dotted Cluster, Shoes-Anthro Pointed Light Oxfords. This one was super easy. Black with gold touches? Add a bit of gray...done.

Here’s proof that I actually try on my styling sets to make sure they work as far as length, proportion, and hue.

Set 2: Hourglass Form Dress with: Sweater-J.Crew Jester Turtleneck (picked up for $18 dollahs. aww yeah!), Belt-J.Crew, Purple Tights-J.Crew, Shoes-Anthropologie Daybreak T-Straps. Ugh, SO SORRY for my streaked mirror. KIDS! What to do with 'em? Pass the beer nuts....hehe. Jewel Tones of Mustard, Green, and Purple. They're the three amigos, I tell ya. Close up of purple tights and green shoes below:

Yum.

Set 3: Hourglass Form Dress with: Top-Anthropologie Tarpan Buttondown, Belt-Anthro Snakebite, Tights-J.Crew, Shoes-Anthro Lass and Laddie Oxfords. You could easily switch the belt out with a fuschia, light pink, gold, and switch the tights with brown or nude.

Set 4: Hourglass Form Dress with: Jacket-Anthropologie Cassia Jacket, Belt-Anthropologie, Tights-Anthropologie, Shoes-Anthropologie High Glossed Loafers. Bought the Cassia Jacket at the sale two weeks ago. This little drapey number has lovely windowpane detailing, and this colorway is the best one by far. Mustard, Rust, and Turquoise....be still my beating heart.

Set 5: Hourglass Form Dress with: Shirt-J.Crew Buffalo Check, Belt-Anthropologie Dusk Blue Suede Belt, Shoes-Faryl Robin, Tights-J.Crew. Continuing the Mustard, Rust, Aqua/Turquoise affair here. Loving the mix of prints here. I had fun with this particular Buffalo Check top and this dress; see below.

Set 6: Hourglass Form Dress with: Shirt-J.Crew Buffalo check, Necklace-Anthropologie Sun Kingdom Necklace, Belt-Anthropologie Dasara Belt , Tights-HUE dark green, Boots-Anthropologie Gilgarran. These colors are SO fall; mustard, rust, brown, and dark green. Makes me want to get to holiday eatin' again.

Set 7: Hourglass Form Dress with: Shirt-J.CRew Buffalo Check, Scarf-Anthropologie name?, Belt-Anthropologie, Tights-HUE green , Booties-Anthropologie Times Three Booties. Continuing with the mustard, rust and greens.

Set 8: Hourglass Form Dress with: Cardi-J.Crew Ethereal Ruffle, Shoes-Anthropologie Wingspan Heels, TIghts-HUE blue-green, Necklace-Anthropologie. These shoes just begged to paired with this dress. So I based everything off the sweet shoes. Could do a sweet skinny metallic gold belt with this set too.

I had several more outfits still to go when my sojourn in the closet was cut short by one wailing, chunky little 3 1/2 month old.  So sorry. But cheeks had to be kissed and loved on.

Per usual, I would love to know which set speaks your language.  Feedback, ladies….

I will be making a few changes to the blog in the coming days, adding pages up top specifically for DIY posts, Queen of Your Closet posts, and Flex Your Style Muscle Posts.  Hope this makes my blog much easier to navigate.  Any feedback would be appreciated.

Colorphile post still to come this week, a challenge, the Little Man Shower, and much more….

xoxo Molly

Paint it Plaid, I Say.

First things first….this week’s sale at Anthro.  What did I buy? Only one item.  This flowy green goddess:

Valparaiso Dress

Her flowy sleeves make me simply giddy with satisfaction.  Dolman sleeves are kinda magic for the straight-waisters among us.  They “have the effect of making the shoulders look sloped, therefore minimizing the appearance of the waist.”  Dolman sleeves = good for Molly, especially for my in-between sizes while I morph back to my former self, and will be much appreciated on my normal body shape once I’m there.  I can’t wait to play with her.  What did y’all grab?  (here’s a tidbit….I may write y’all in my blog posts once in a while, but I never say y’all in real life because I’m not a born n’ bred Texan…just an implant.  But I like the idea of contracting “you all” as a principle, since it kinda just rolls off the tongue and is less work overall). Don’t y’all agree?!

I bit the bullet and bought the Painted Plaid Dress when it was full price.  I was GREAT with child at the time, “great” being liken to the size of a barn. But I knew this dress would be a cherished member of my closet arsenal for years to come and that I would end up mentally flogging myself from now and forever if I missed out on it.  So I bought it and stared longingly at it in my closet for a few months, tags attached, not even tried on, and then…..it hit sale.  And to make the deal sweeter, Anthro was offering the additional 50% off of sale when it hit, remember? You should…since this happened just last month.  So I returned the original and ordered it online for $49.95 instead of, what was it, like $168?

It was WAY tight on my postpartum rib cage this first day I broke it out and I had to sweet talk MacGyver into zipper assistance…but when all was said and zipped, I felt pretty darn fabulous in it.  This is a feat, as a postpartum mom.  Many days are spent not feeling fabulous in your own flabby skin.  So when that dress zips up that you’ve been ogling for what feels like forever, it’s a good day.  A very good day.

Many of you expressed your liking for the post I did here, styling the Split Diamonds Shift dress several different ways.  So here I go again, only this time I’m painting it plaid. Hope you enjoy.  Tell me which is your fave, why don’t cha (another great contraction…thanks to these girls).  Sorry for the closet shots…my little guy was snoozing in the bassinet and you never wake a sleepin’ baby, not even for fashion. :)

Set 1: Jacket-Anthropologie Immutable Jacket, Belt-Anthropologie, Tights-Anthro, Shoes-Anthropologie

Set 2: Top-Anthropologie Lemon Liftoff Blouse, Belt-Anthropologie Vivid Brink Belt, Hat-Anthropologie Verdant Fields Cloche, Boots-Bjorn

Set 3: Top-Anthropologie Nicoletta Blouse, Belt-Anthropologie, Tights-J.Crew, Necklace- Anthropologie Verveine, Shoes- Chie Mihara Foreso, or Anthropologie Bootlegger's Gal Heels

Set 4: Top-Anthropologie Nicoletta Blouse, Belt-Anthropologie, Shoes- Anthropologie Marquee Gemmed Heels, Tights-J.Crew, Necklace-Anthro Verveine

Set 5: same as above except with brown and black tights from J.Crew

Set 6: same, except TIghts - Hue, Shoes- Anthropologie Fine Cut Oxfords

Set 7: Same as 6 except Tights-J.Crew, Necklace- Anthropologie Papaya Pebble

Set 8: Sweater-Anthropologie unknown- brand is HWR, Belt-Ann Taylor, Tights-J.Crew, Shoes-Anthropologie Carved Celadon Heels

Set 9: same as set 8, but shoes are Chie Mihara Foreso.

Can you tell I had fun playing around, especially with the Nicoletta Blouse? Word to the fashionable-wise: Tights and accessories always save the day. If you like the styling in sets #8 and 9, heed the following warning…..The style of  pull-on style sweater you wear needs to nip in at the bottom.  It needs to be somewhat fitted in the bottom half in order to tame the volume going on with the dress.  If you ignore this point, you may be disappointed with the IRL execution of the set.  That’s my disclaimer.  Just sayin’……

Hope you’ve got some excellent plans brewing for the weekend.  Do something fun for me, k?  Laundry and menial cleaning is on the agenda around these parts…

xoxo Molly
