Light the Candles

…Cause it’s my birthday weekend, friends! Yee-ha!

In honor of the day of my birth, I did a bit ‘o damage at Anthro with my birthday discount. Totally my idea of a good time.

I picked up a new pair of cords that have made all of my cinnamon and rust dreams come true. They flat out rule.

Wait, still more. I know….buck wild, I tell you.

Worn to a birthday lunch today with my GF’s, I wore 3 newbies. Can you tell which ones?

Wearing: Top-Ann Taylor, Skirt-Anthropologie Indigo Striations Sweater Skirt , Tights-Anthropologie Pure and Good in Moss, Necklace-Anthropologie Lily Mineral, Shoes-Chie Mihara Light

Oh man, this skirt! Next to pajamas, I don’t think I’ve ever worn anything so comfortable. For reals. The striations are fantasticly colorful without being overwhelming, and the uneven hemline is super chic while maintaining a definite laid-back vibe. So perfect.

Queen of Your Closet Series: Cazsh Do’s and Don’ts.

Casual wear. Oi. Triple Oi. Have I seen some seriously sad excuses for casual wear in my day!

I nearly cringe at the mention of “casual wear” for fear that I’ll see gross misinterpretations of the phrase through persons donning any of the following to a “casual” meal out: exercise clothing, lounge wear, pajama pants, oversized t-shirts/sweatshirts with stains or crude sayings, scrubs, etc.

As Stacey London once said: “It’s the pajamafication of America.” And it’s painful to see, really.

Just last weekend when MacGyver and I were grabbing a bite to eat at a Brio, we were seated next to a table of three, 2 women and 1 man. I didn’t notice what the man was wearing because I was so distracted by the women. Both of them were wearing exercise clothing, I mean like full-on Nike running shorts and running shoes, hair was a-la-post workout and no makeup. It was 8:30 p.m. on a Saturday night.  Brio isn’t a hole in the wall establishment. It isn’t fast food, nor have I ever seen one located next to a Walmart. Or a gym. No excuse, seriously.  Cazsh wear in this sense was completely abused.

Casual, or cazsh shouldn’t mean a lack of style. Shape, pattern/print, color, proportion….these things should all still apply when sporting cazsh pieces. My advice to those who don’t feel like wearing anything but lounge wear is….don’t go out.  Your clothes tell a story, and if you’re wearing lounge wear in public, the story you’re telling is that you don’t feel like being out. So don’t. Stay home, cuddle up on the couch, and lounge.

But, if you feel like being casual….

maxi dresses are such a great way to do cazsh. This flowy yet structured piece called my name from way back in the sale section of the Fossil store in San Francisco.  The print, color, and fit were the true salesmen of this purchase.  Regularly $128, she was on sale for $59.99.  This is an XS, has a lovely elasticized panel in the back, and couldn’t be more comfortable and cazsh.

A polished bermuda is also an excellent way to do cazsh. Add a classic plaid pattern to it and a comfy metallic flat? You’re golden. Literally. ha.

Change Is Good.

So how’s about Monday’s sale, eh? Nicely done, Anthro.  Way to keep us all on our toes.

FYI….my reliable source says sale days will be on Mondays from here on out.

What?!? Yep, no more frantic sleuthing runs to Anthro on Monday night…. No more bleary eyes dropping the kids off at school on Tuesday morning.

It’s Monday or bust now.

Change is good. I’m gonna like looking forward to Monday mornings now. Mondays have long been my natural born enemy, so I’m a fan of the change.  What do you all think?

Revisited Impressionist Dress

(I was lucky to grab the dress I had tried on and hand-picked for the print placement, the bodice bordered by an aspen trunk on the right and the chest swathed in pink florals.  Sure, it was missing the button by the time I finally bought her, but that just meant more of a discount. Cha-ching!  Many of the dresses I saw were missing the button or the top fake diamond part of the button that had been hot glued on.  The buttons are cheaptastic. I’m going to try to locate a solid metal button that won’t snap apart like the plastic one she came with).

I also picked up this asymmetrical waist cincher:

Both of these will be quite different new additions to my closet. I’m pleased as pie!

While I was there, I also snuck in a fit session with this floral explosion:

The Thora Sweater. Runs short. Will totally have to layer under this for length but I see awesome button-up shirts paired with it, edges folded up over the sleeves. This is a ‘wait for sale’ buy for sure.

I was up in Austin the other day at the Domain location and noticed they had 3 or 4 of the Kuychi Necklaces hanging there.  Just thought I’d mention it since the necklace is now hidden online and perhaps one of you wants to do a charge send for it? Info’s here if you need it.
