Hortulan: of or relating to a garden.

**STOP BY MY SHOP ANTHROMOLLOGIES PAGE TO SEE NEW LOVELIES FOR SALE. NEW ITEMS ADDED EVERY WEEK!! ****

I had a thought the other day that I think Anthro headquarters are dumbing down the product names lately. And it saddens me so.

There is something so secretively satisfying knowing I am wearing a “Hortulan” pencil skirt and not just a “Garden Pencil Skirt”.

Anthro product namers used to treat us with higher cognitive functioning in mind, making the product name part of the whole experience of buying something unique and special there. Something “of or relating to a garden”.

Heck, I can go to the Loft and buy a “Garden Pencil Skirt” any day of the week. I just don’t wanna.

I want a Hortulan Pencil Skirt, don’t you?!

Anthro, no more watered-down names. Go cerebral! Make it a mystery again. I like using a dictionary :)

  1. This is one of my favorite skirts ever! I agree the name is fantastic and it looks great on you Molly! My current Hortulan is too big on me now — if anyone out there has a size 8 to sell I’d be very interested. :)

Mine too…the colors! Love. How bout just taking the skirt in? Like slit it open and hack of material and put her back together? Might be less expensive and quicker than waiting to pounce on one. I think it’s a great issue to have though, under-growing a skirt! You go, girl.

Molly, you could make your own Anthro name trivia game! Easy points could be the majorly popular ones, like Unconditional Osier or bike lane dress. Bonus points for some of the really obscure ones (e.g. china cat sunflower blouse!) heh. Love the skirt on you too. Thanks again for the inspiration.

  3. Yabbadabbamazing!! You’re hortulan my brain with these gorgeous prints! I agree- I miss the evocative ring to some clAssic anthro names. They’re even repeating some, which is just wrong and confusing.

I thought I was in love with the Lousa dress, but it’s a hard sell ( even if the name references Portugal where the catalogue was shot!)

  4. I love that outfit. That cape is gorgeous!!

Molly, What are the best websites to find Chies here in the US?
