An Anthro Kind of Morning

Remember last week when I mentioned one of the excellent managers at Anthropologie contacted me and invited Anthromollogies to come in for a special somethin’-somethin’?  I’m finally here to spill the deets.

My fabulous friend Maggie and I arrived before opening and were able to witness Anthro’s behind-the-scenes clothing location switch-a-roos, the visual team hard at work, and SA’s abuzz with preparations.  We were greeted by Lindsay, manager of loveliness, and immediately offered a smoothie of choice and addictive little scone cakes from Starbucks.  They were evil-good.

To keep our Shopping Blood Sugar Up

Perusing while sipping a smoothie at Anthro at 9 a.m. on a weekday morning?  Can I say um….YES?!  The store had just been shipped a crap-load of new arrivals, being that this time of year in San Antonio is party time.  Fiesta and Holy Week make people shiny and merry, and eager to shop.  So the store was /is fully stocked and ready to entice.

I felt like a kid in a candy store, pointing at skirts I wanted to try, tops I longed to see in person, and every request was met with, “Oh, that one’s already in your room.”  Lindsay had pulled TONS of clothes for Maggie and I to try on, including specific looks for the season.  You know what a color junkie I am…. the punches of color have me…well, figuratively, a little bit high.  I’m totally digging it.  I have a ton of pictures to get to, so let’s roll.

I was super excited to try on the Monarch Skirt, which had just arrived.  Small-scale butterflies, in yellow, on a skirt….I was drooling.  My salivating stopped short the moment I slipped it on.  It was all sorts of wrong on me. The waistband appears elastic, which it is, but it also has a side zip.  The band portion was just to long, creating a visual widening mess on me.  The length was too short with the wide waistband, and I was underwhelmed by the super-thin, cheap feeling fabric.  See my sad face?  And how wide I look?!  Tried on with the Translucent Dolman Tee, which I did not like at all either.

Next up is the GORGEOUS Maggie (she’s seriously a fox.  So cute! and has the cutest little figure.)

First she tried the Slubby Tulip Dress, which seriously turned her into a Grecian Goddess!  I mean look at her!  She ended up taking this baby home with her. Don’t worry,  I wouldn’t have let her leave without it.

Next up, I tried on a much anticipated Eva Franco number, the En Plein Air Dress.  Pardon the boots with this dress… I wanted to see the length with heels, but I wouldn’t normally pair these with this fabulous frock.  Something’s going on with miss Franco.  Her sizing is getting wonky.  I used to wear 4′s and 6′s in her beauties, and even own a skirt in a size 2 (which, I realize was way off.)  My point is that she used to run big.  Well, now she’s running small.  I took a size up in this dress.  The material doesn’t have much stretch, but it is very well constructed, a classic shape/design, and I’m seriously crushing on it. The bright pops of color in this lovely make it super appropriate for the season.  I love the higher neckline and Holy Mackanoly….a dress that ACTUALLY goes to…or slightly past… my knees!!  (at 5’9 1/2″, that’s a feat folks.)

Next, Maggie slipped on this ethereal little number, the Chroma Reflections Maxi Dress.  Could it be any more lovely on her?  Oh boy, she needs to be on a movie set, walking around a fountain, pronto!  For busty ladies, like Maggie, this dress is a winner.  We stole Lindsay’s necklace for the photo to edge it up a bit.  Chunky necklace with a touch of shine + floaty, feminine dress = I think I may have a crush on Maggie now. :)

This to die for orange, printed, silk top by Edme and Esyllte still isn’t online.  It’s $98, and it’s freaking fabulous.  I loved the base of orange with cobalt blues, marigold yellows, and bright pinks.  It’s a visual feast, is what it is.  I REALLY want this top, but am making myself wait to sale.  I also think this top may be difficult for bustier ladies to make work.  However I can’t be sure of that, since I’m not!  I can’t find these pants online either.  They’re linen, by Elevenses, and I think were $88? Don’t quote me.  Linen and I are not friends.  I would never buy these, because linen is kind to no one at the end of the day.  All the wrinkles congregate on your upper thighs and crotch, creating the look I like to call “Dumpy Crotch”.  It’s just not for me.  The belt I  have on is the Stretch Tulip Belt, which I already own.  The blue is a fantastic shade, but I’ve already had quality issues and had to exchange my first one.  The elastic in back, after one wear, did not retain it’s elasticity.  Instead, it looked as if I had handed it to a 400 lb. man, asked him to wear it for a day, and then give it back to me.  Hopefully it was an isolated problem, but I’ll keep you updated on that.  Anthro, as usual, was excellent about the exchange and extremely apologetic.  I heart them so.

Mystery Top, Edme and Esyllte

I was so crazy for this next outfit on Maggie, I freaked.  This blouse shape (cannot locate online and don’t know who it is by, sorry!) on her petite frame added more width to her shoulders, ultimately creating more curves.  Nipped in at the waist with a cinching belt, and added length just on the sides of the blouse made her appear taller.  Plus, the print is just phenomenal.  Lindsay grabbed a funky necklace which has been on my wishlist FOREVER, the Nuances Necklace, tying the brown belt in nicely.  I thought she looked feminine and a little intimidating at the same time.  Bonus.

I almost peed myself when Lindsay told me the Geo Feather Blouse had finally come in!  I was more excited to try this little number on than anything else.  We did a twinner shot, for funsies.  This is Lindsay…she’s awesome!  (I wish I had pictures of all the SA’s I know at my store, because they’re all truly exceptional). So here I have on the size Small, which was not as flowy as I wanted, and a bit too short for when I raised my arms.  Too snug at the waist as well.  I had to wait until two days ago to pick up the size Medium, when more sizes arrived.  Oh happy day!

I’ll have to catch you back tomorrow with part deux of the morning.  I’ll leave you with my OOTD I wore to the event.  This was my first wear of the Amelie Skirt from Talbots I blogged about here.  I really loved the way this outfit turned out.  And I got to wear a necklace I bought on etsy forever ago, made from vintage necklace parts.  I don’t wear it often enough, but it was just the right touch of edginess I think this outfit needed.  Concur, fashion friends?

I'm always looking for great Etsy sellers — who did you buy that necklace from? Any other sellers you recommend? If you've never checked her things out, I recommend treeandkimball — just ordered my first pieces from her this week, and I'm noticing you love color as much as I do!

  2. Wow, what an great experience, Molly, thanks for sharing! And you're right, your friend Maggie IS a fox, like you!

(BTW, approx. how tall is Maggie? The chrome reflections dress is gorgeous …)

I was so surprised that both maxi dresses worked!

Thank you again, Molly, for an awesome morning. I love the twinsy picture of you and Lindsay. You guys must have cut in line the day God was handing out legs.

  7. That sounds like so much fun!! I love getting the VIP treatment anywhere, but it's especially sweet when you get it from Anthro. :)

  8. How cool! Thanks for sharing your experience with us. I love all of the pictures and your explanation of why things worked or didn't work is really helpful. You look great in orange!

That's awesome that you were able to get a little sneak peek of behind the scenes!!!

AAAHH That mystery top I am in LOVE with! I tried it on at my local store yesterday and the size I tried on with just a tad too snug and they didn't have it in the next size :o ( It needs to go online ASAP because that lovely top will be mine!

  10. That is so sweet of them to treat you to a VIP shopping trip! You both look like you had a great time and tried on some cute looks. I love you in that orange top, I hope it finds its way into your closet soon!

Your Talbot's skirt in your OOTD is also adorble, very Anthro-esque.

  11. Molly, you're too cute for words! The whole experience sounds wonderful and the staff sound extremely nice. Hooray for sharing it all with you and you tried on some real cuties!!

  12. What a lovely time for you guys! Wow. I am loving the mystery tops especially. Glad to see the slubby tunic looking great on someone. I think it's so cute and comfy looking.

LOVE your OOTD! Really inspiring color combinations (as usual).

  14. WOw! I just read that you're 5 foot 9?
This must have been a really fun experience. The Eva Franco dress is so gorgeous on you. Also, i think the Geo Feather Blouse looks pure perfection – even in the size small.
Oh yes, Maggie looks like a total goddess – but so do you Molly!
PS – you've styled the Talbots skirt so well using your excellent eye for colour. It can easily be mistaken for Anthro

Trying to sort out the black and white mystery top.

It is by "Lilu," 100% silk, made in China. It used to be on-line, but it started out in a hunter-green checked colorway. It also came in cream and black with horizontal stripes. Cannot remember the name, but I do recall the top being on-line.

  16. Oooh, this looks like such fun! I love that Eva Franco dress on you, too. I'll definitely be keeping an eye on that one.

Lucky you for this experience (!!!). I would have bought heaps if I had been woo'ed with those amazing wee scones from Starbucks – my fave treat hands down… yum! I felt the same about the monarch skirt when I got it – sigh. It went back (plus it was huge on me). Also, like everyone, I adore that mystery top on you…

  18. Love all of these looks, especially the Geo blouse! That is on my list and it looks great on both of you :)

    • I highly recommend the Geo Feather. I wore it last night downtown for Fiesta festivities and felt so pretty….almost exotic. And I'm nowhere near exotic! Worth every penny!

  19. hey, how did this not appear in my reader yet! oooohh…so many tantalizing lovelies!!! So happy to see my beloved Plein Air dress, and the orange blouse is gorgeous belted!

I am also floored by the spectacular combo of the metred and mitred stripes with the orange Jackie!!! Yowza!!

    • There was some sort of glitch yesterday when I posted, and my server went berserk. It took about 6 hours to resolve, and we had to reconfigure some stuff, so I wonder if it messed with my feeds? Weird. Sorry about that! I totally loved putting together the outfit I wore that day. It's totally one of my favorites now. So glad you liked it too!

That top was the Hermitage top in the black motif. It is lovely, I hope I can find it in a store, didn't realize it was sold out online!
